Dear Supporter of CCHC;
Carol is 56 years old and works in her own business
cleaning houses. She came to Charlotte Community
Health Clinic because she had not had a medical
checkup in a long time. During her women’s check up
the volunteer physician found a lump in her breast. The
mammogram and follow-up diagnostics confirmed that
she had breast cancer. Today Carol has completed her
treatments and her long-term prognosis is good. Now
each time Carol comes into the clinic she tearfully
expresses appreciation to all of us for saving her life.
John had no healthcare coverage through his work and
did not have the funds to privately pay for a doctor’s visit
- yet he knew that something was not right. He was
thirsty all the time and his eyesight seemed to be failing.
Dr. Carter diagnosed John with diabetes. The clinic gave
him a diabetic meter and the strips to begin testing his
blood sugars every day. Through nutrition classes and
education classes he has learned how serious diabetes
can be and is learning to self-manage his disease.
Charlotte Community Health Clinic is a medical “safety
net” for low-income, uninsured people in our community
who have no other access to healthcare. In 2006
physicians, nurses, and numerous other volunteers
have enabled us to provide over 4,000 patient visits for
376 new patients, 1297 established patients. Our waiting
list has grown from 200 to 300 in the past several
months and we see no end to those who need us.
Please…will you join us in supporting the working poor
and uninsured people in Mecklenburg County? Your
generous contribution is needed to purchase diabetic
strips, medications, medical supplies and office
supplies. Patients like Carol and John need your help
and support. You will make a difference in their lives
forever.
